This frame is named after Sol's sister, Gladys Moscot, a wanderlust traveler who left New York's Lower East Side for a life of drinking Cuba Libres and smoking Cohibas in Havana. Back in the days of yore, when the Lower East Side was more rough and tumble than cocktails and tapas, MOSCOT's resident optometrist, Dr. Richard Fleisig, aka "Dr. Zetz," did double duty: provided excellent eye care to patients, and punched (hence his moniker) bad guys tasks that were (almost always) mutually exclusive. He was most notable for settling clashes on Orchard Street over the age-old game of street dice. Just like the bold and bright Harry, The ARBITA, is the real deal - no need to roll the dice.

We named The BREN for our beloved, longtime employee, Ida Wax, who worked for 40 years at MOSCOT from the 1960s through 1990s. A "Bren" incarnate, she was a firecracker of a woman, charismatic and full of energy, and an inspiration to everyone who knew and loved her.

A "balebus" is someone who is resolute, indomitable, and steadfast - qualities Great Grandpa Hyman so admired, he "invented" the "word" balebus to "identify" a "balebuster" whenever he saw one. Nearly 100 years later, we Moscots still love us a balebus, but think this frame may be a more appropriate way to "identify" one.
